For the past couple of months my grade has been working on something called tree books, which are basically cardboard cutouts of trees that have decorations and many many paragraphs on them. They talk about not taking things for granted, what your roots are, things you want to do in life, etc.
The reason these are so special is because they really show the good and bad side of life. Some people write about things that might be really hard for them to share, and some share things that are very joyful and happy. It’s all round a very emotional book.
Also on them there’s beautiful art of plants, trees, hills, meadows, grass, clouds, flowers, leafs, pretty much anything nature related! Some people even added birds, eggs, and different animals. It’s interesting to look at all the different books and see peoples different perspectives.
It was definitely a learning experience and it was fun to learn the process to make the book. We actually got to work with someone who does these types of projects all the time. It was super fun! Their name was Peg Gignoux, you can find their website here: Click Here
The painting we did for it was called Akua ink, basically what we did is we out Akua ink onto this jelly surface, and then we put a leaf, flower, twig, etc. onto it, and then we put a paper on top of it and pressed really well. The result was an incredible looking paper with the outline of whatever we put on it. It looks amazing.
The process was very long, here’s what we did in order.
Screen printing
Paper folding
Akua painting
Collage
Paper pockets
Salute to my roots poem
Life list
When this is over poem
My Wish poem
And we read the book Wishtree and added small details from that book
Then finally we presented it at the Frank Gallery.
All in all it was a great experience and I really enjoyed it.
